هذا الكتاب- كما يدل عليه اسمه- موسوعة تاريخية شاملة موجزة للحضارة الإنسانية عبر عصورها ويروى قصتها الأديب الانجليزى الشهير ج.هـ ويلز. والطبعة العربية من هذا الكتاب تصدر أربعة أجزاء يتناول الجزء الأول منها نشأة الكون والنظرية العلمية المختلفة التى تفسر تطوره ثم ظهور الإنسان والأجناس القديمة المندثرة. ويعرض لفكر الإنسان البدائى ومعتقداته الدينية ونشأة اللغة وتقسياتها قم لأقدم الحضارات فى مصر والعراق والهند. أما الجزء الثانى فيعرض للحضارة الإغريقية والهلينستية والرومانية. ولمحة عن تاريخ العبرانيين، أما الجزء الثالث فيعنى بحضارات العصر الوسيط والجزء الرابع يتناول التاريخ الحديث.

H.G. Wells (21 September 1866 - 13 August 1946) a thinker, journalist, World Meeting and Aokhantions.
It is considered one of the founders of science fiction literature and has gained his fame thanks to its novels belonging to the literary category. Unlike contemporary Jules Verne, Wales's novels won a deadly social criticism and did not stop the adventure.
