Adonis
Ali Ahmad Saeed Esber, better known by his pen name Adonis, is a Syrian poet born in 1930 in the village of Qasabin, in the city of Jableh in Syria. He adopted the name Adonis (after the Phoenician legend of Adonis), with which he deviated from the traditions of Arabic naming since 1948.
