قطعت مصر شوطًا طويلًا من الكفاح السياسي في الربع الأول من القرن العشرين بغية أن تنال استقلالها عن الإمبراطورية البريطانية التي كانت في عنفوانها آنذاك، حيث كان مجابهة قوى كبرى مثلها يبدو عملًا عبثيًّا لا طائل منه، ولكن ذلك لم يمنع الحناجر المصرية أن تصدح بنداء الحرية في الميادين والمحافل العالمية، فحتى بعد نجاح ثورة ١٩١٩م ظلت حكومة التاج البريطاني تماطل وتناور أملًا منها في أن تُميت القضية، وتجعل من فرض الحماية الإنجليزية أمرًا واقعًا؛ فتذرعت بحجج واهية كصون الأقليات وحماية عرش السلطان، وساقتها في ما سُمي بـ «مشروع كرزون» الذي أصاب الأمة المصرية بخيبة أمل كبرى عند صدوره، ولكن الله سخَّر لمصر أبطالًا وقفوا أمام هذه الألاعيب الاستعمارية وقد توحدت قلوبهم على هدف واحد هو مصر الحرة ذات السيادة. أقرأ أقل
