إذا كنت من أبناء التسعينيات السعيدة فالاحتمالية الأقرب أنك شاهدت في وقت ما أو آخر المسلسل التلفزيوني القصير المقتبس عن رواية ستيفن كينغ الشهيرة “الشيء”، ربما لا تذكر متى، أين أو كم كان عمرك وقتها، لكنك تشعر بالذكرى تلمع خاطفة في عقلك الباطن عندما ترى بالونة حمراء تطفو وحيدة، معطف مطر أصفر أو مهرجا أصلع ذا شعر أحمر على جانبي رأسه وثلاث كرات فرو برتقالية على بذلته مكشرا عن أنيابه. في خريف 1985، خرجت الطبعة الأولى من رواية “الشيء” حاملة رقم الرواية الثانية والعشرين لستيفن كينغ والأضخم حينذاك، حيث بلغ حجمها 1138 صفحة. تدور الرواية، كمعظم روايات كينغ، في ولاية ماين الأميركية. في مدينة أميركية نموذجية، على السطح على الأقل، أما في أعماق المدينة داخل مواسير الصرف الصحي فأمر آخر. حيث يعيش كائن متحول الشكل يقتات على رعب الأطفال، فزعهم ولحمهم. تدور الأحداث في خطين زمنيين متناوبي العرض، الأول في أواخر الخمسينيات، عندما يقتل جورجي دينبوراه بينما يطارد قاربه الورقي أثناء عاصفة مطرية ويؤشر ذلك إلى موجة من اختفاءات أطفال المدينة، يبدأ أخوه الأكبر بيل بمساعدة أصدقائه من نادي الخاسرين، البحث عن قاتل جورج وأطفال المدينة.

Stephen King

Stephen King is an American author best known for his contributions to the horror, supernatural fiction, and suspense genres. He was born in Portland, Maine in 1947 and began his writing career as a teenager, submitting short stories to various magazines. After graduating from college, King worked as a teacher while continuing to write in his spare time.
