Edward Al-Kharrat

Edwar al-Kharrat (March 16, 1926 - December 1, 2015) is an Egyptian writer, born in Alexandria to a Coptic family of origin from Upper Egypt. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Alexandria University in 1946 AD. He worked in the British Naval Stores in Bridges in Alexandria, then an employee at the National Bank in Alexandria, after which he worked as an employee In the Egyptian National Insurance Company in 1955 AD, then translated at the Romanian Embassy in Cairo. His first collection of short stories (The High Walls) 1959 was considered a decisive turning point in the Arab story, as he moved away from the prevailing realism at the time and focused his attention on describing the hidden souls subject to disappointment and despair. and corruption. As for his first novel (Rama and the Dragon) 1980, it was a first-class literary event, in the form of a dialogue between a man and a woman, in which elements of pharaonic, Greek and Islamic mythology and symbolism are mixed. Al-Kharrat then repeated the ball with (The Other Time) 1985 and a number of stories and novels (although it is difficult to classify these texts) free from the ideological considerations that were prevalent before. Edward Al-Kharrat has published more than 50 books of fiction, poetry or criticism. Among his books are: The Walls of High Pride Hours Rama and the Dragon, The Other Time, Ribs of the Desert. He also translated fourteen books into Arabic, and a number of plays and studies. He was awarded the State Incentive Award and the Medal of Science and Arts of the first class in 1973.
